| The Lamar Avenue Church of Christ has a rich history. With restoration roots as early as the 1850's, Lamar Avenue has faithfully spread the Gospel of Jesus from Paris, Texas to around the world since being officially organized in 1869. From her early days to the present she has been a leader for the cause of Christ. Capable and competent preachers have filled her pulpits to proclaim the word of God. Godly men have served this church as elders and deacons. It is blessed with the vision of her leaders from the past to the present. Mission fields have been filled because of her faithful and generous support. As a church, we welcome everyone who comes through our doors just as Christ has welcomed us. From the time our children are born, they find an immediate place at Lamar Avenue. Sunday and Wednesday Bible classes are encouraged for people of all ages. We are grateful for the godly men and women who have taught in the past and those who continue to teach to this day. We are blessed with a ministry of our Kiddie Kollege for pre-school children, as well as an after-school Latch Key Program. Our teens participate in Leadership Training for Christ, Camp Deer Run, mission trips, retreats, and other activities that draw them closer to Christ. Our adults build relationships through small "Family LIFE" groups as well as our senior adult "Young at Heart" group. Lamar Avenue is committed to reaching out to the Paris and Lamar County community and other states and countries. It is active in teaching and providing to the needs of those in jail, the deaf and those who are without food and clothing. A full time minister is on the church staff to address the spiritual needs of the Hispanic community. Foreign mission efforts currently include Tallinn, Estonia, and Mexico. In addition, support is provided to the "Adventures in Missions," a ministry that prepares young people to serve in the mission field and to a ministry that develops preachers for the Northeast part of the US. It is encouraging to see the way God has worked through the people of this church. The history of this church is the story of Christ at work in the lives of His servants. It is our prayer that the story of Lamar Avenue Church of Christ will always be as the apostle Paul said in Ephesians 3:20-21 "Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen." |
